In which the Daddies Berry call in the cavalry to stop the wedding
“I’m not sure this was such a good idea after everything that happened with them,” Leroy mutters while the Troubletones are performing.
Hiram hushes him. “Since calling in Barbra for an intervention wasn’t humanly possible, this seemed to be the next-best thing.”
“You really think inviting him here to watch after what happened the LAST time he surprised her at a New Directions competition was a good idea?”
“We just need him to watch her. It’s not going to matter what happened in the past. He knows this is exactly where she’s supposed to be, and he’s going to do everything in his power to make sure it stays that way.” Hiram knows what he’s saying is true, even if it took a LOT of convincing to get Jesse here in the first place. In fact, he’d only agreed the night before, after Hiram had called for the fifth time.
And then Rachel is center stage with the spotlight on her, beaming out at a fully appreciative audience like she’s never been happier in her life, and there’s no more conversation for several minutes as the three men who love her more than anything watch in awe.
When the audience is on its feet clapping, Hiram chances a glance over at Jesse, whose eyes are suspiciously bright. He swallows hard, like he’s trying to rein his emotions in, as he looks over at the Berry men and nods.
“I’ll help,” he says quietly.
